This piece began with the question of why certain voices are silenced while others are preserved in marble. A statue carries authority because time has consecrated it, but fresh marks on its surface are treated as a threat. Graffiti, like protest, unsettles because it speaks too directly — because it dares to change the narrative in real time.

The arrest highlights how quickly power moves to protect symbols, while those who challenge them are punished. Yet the act of marking, of leaving a trace, persists. For me, this work is about the tension between permanence and disruption, about who decides what is allowed to remain visible and what must be erased.

It echoes the thought that if graffiti — or rebellion, or truth-telling — could change anything, it would be forbidden. And perhaps that is why it matters.
